New and Next

There is something scary in "new" Stepping into the unknown. Traveling into a new territory. Exploring the vast wilds of the uncharted.

I like the comfort of the old, worn and known.

But faith is an active word. It happens in the "now" moments of our lives. It does not happen as we sit on the couch. It happens when our circumstances stretch us.

Hebrews 1:11 says "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen".

What if we read this with the emphasis on the word "Now"? What if we pondered what "Now faith" meant for us?

Break it Down

"Now faith" is active.

"Now faith" leaves no room for fear or doubt.

"Now faith" brings strength when we should be weak.

"Now faith" makes new things and places an adventure.

I used to be a roller coaster kind of girl. The flips and turns, the ups and downs, and the anticipation of the unknown was something I sought out. Now that I am older, a roller coaster seems a bit like torture, not "fun". Yet, life is sometimes like a roller coaster.

When that unknown dip leaves you breathless and you feel like your stomach is in your throat, "now faith" grounds you. It reminds you that no matter the circumstances or how wild the ride of life feels in this moment, God has everything under control as long as we trust Him with everything.

Give in, Give up, Grab Hold

"Now faith" is an exchange. Your insecurities for His assurances.  "Now faith" leaves conventional wisdom behind and grabs a hold of a greater wisdom: God's wisdom. "Now faith" gives you courage to face anything!

"...He will never leave you or forsake you."Hebrews 13:5b
"Then you will walk in your way securely and in confident trust, and you shall not dash your foot or stumble." Proverbs 3:23
"Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord." Psalms 31:24

So whatever we face, whenever we face it, meet it with "Now faith". Keep your faith built up. Remind yourself daily of what God has done.

Be thankful for the things He has done. This will build your faith.

Paul told the Philippians how:

"Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise." Philippians 4:8

A life lived in "Now faith" does not worry about what if's, does not dwell in tomorrow. "Now faith" lives in the moment God has brought us to. "Now faith" leaves no room for double minded, wishy-washy claptrap.
If we live out our lives in this way, what would that look like?
